!!Spoilers ahead!!
Released on the 22nd and 23rd of February 2025, respectively, episodes 3 and 4 focus on Dong Jin’s (Jinyoung) growth as he starts his college life out of the village. The episode opens with Dong Jin attending his first lecture in college.
Upon asking why he chose statistics as his subject, during the orientation session, he explained that he did so to solve a real-life problem using statistics. The professor’s character is played by Jin Seon-kyu. He is known for versatile characters, one of which is Ma Joo-Seok from ‘The Uncanny Counter 2’.
We came across the backstory of how Kim Joong-Hyuk (Im Jae-hyuk) became Dong Jin’s friend. They first met in the same orientation class. Just like Mi Jung, there were rumors about Joong Hyuk being the unlucky/shady guy.
Remembering the time when Mi Jung used to have her lunch excluded from her peers, this time, he gathered courage. He approached Joong Hyuk to befriend him, which he couldn’t do in his school. After many unsuccessful tries, they became friends.
Dong Jin hoped to ease his guilt by doing this, though his friendship was not a favor. He just wanted to make sure he didn’t repeat the same mistake with Joong Hyuk.
The story unfolds, and we learn that Dong Jin is juggling part-time jobs to buy preparatory books for the CSAT exam.
During his college, he majorly focused on Mi Jung’s case as the topic for his projects. He did deep research to prove that she is not the witch. With statistics, he proved that the accidents that happened around her were just a coincidence.
One day, when he returned to his home during a vacation, he learned that Mi Jung had left the village. He came back with books for her with a new courage to approach her this time. But he was late, once again.
Returning to his normal life, his professor highlighted some errors in his research. The one in which he proved that Mi Jung was not a witch through statistics. Going back to his analysis, it seemed that his findings were biased. And this fact disappointed him.
Moving on with his life, his friend studied for the police exam, and he was referred for a job by the professor. After some years, when settled into his job, he got the news that his mother had been diagnosed with cancer.
During her treatment in Seoul, he learned that his mother was behind Mi Jung’s eviction from the village. For which she was guilty.
This episode concluded with his mother’s death and his return to the time when he was determined to prove she wasn’t a witch.
In the next episode, as Dong Jin revisits the memory of his past, he comes across the fact that the guy who created a ruckus in the subway with Mi Jung.
While Mi Jung is working from home as a translator with the help of her friend. She lives in a rooftop flat where she has a small farm on the terrace and leaves home only at night.
Dong Jin is packing his belongings and moving to Mi Jung’s neighborhood. He managed to persuade a part-timer who lived in the apartment across from Mi Jung’s to switch places with him. After much negotiation, he successfully exchanged his flat for the one below his.
Just like Dong Jin had Joong Hyuk, Mi Jung wasn’t alone. Even she had a friend, Heo Eun Sil, who seemed to be very supportive and understanding of her solitude.
Remember, in the first episode, some shady guy attacked Dong Jin’s car? That mystery will be solved in this episode. Make sure to watch the drama to know what happened and why.
Episode 4 winds up with him making a resolve again to solve her curse, so that she can live a normal life. For this, he decided to go back to the beginning, his village. To Taebak!
Quite interesting! I enjoyed the episode. Moving forward to another week of ‘The Witch’ kdrama, I’m excited to learn how Dong Jin plans to solve the curse and how it will affect him.
Many will agree that the actors poured their souls into their acting. I absolutely love the expressions of sadness that Roh Jeong Hui pulls in the scenes. They enhance the scenes even further.
