The series is adapted from a webtoon with a similar name. The story revolves around our two main characters Park Mi Jeong and Lee Dong Jin. Our female lead is branded as a witch in her school because numerous accidents and deaths happen in her presence. Whereas, Lee Dong Jin (park Jinyoung) does not believe in those rumors and wants to disapprove of their logic, for which he finds chance to do so after a decade.
In the starting episodes, we were shown protagonists life from their pov. The first episode introduces us to Lee Dong Jin, who’s a data miner. His job is to extract data from surroundings and predict actions based on statistics and observations. He is shown quite successful in his career.
We can also see a cameo from actor Ju Ji-hoon and Yoon Park, fighting in the police station in The Witch kdrama. Lee Dong-jin uses his data mining skills to help detectives resolve their squabble. We see that his car is being smashed by a masked assailant in the parking lot, forcing him to take a lonely ride from the subway back home. We are also introduced to his only detective friend Kim Joong-Hyuk (Im Jae-hyuk) who had to stand him up due to an urgent work call.
Like a diligent office worker in a city, Dong Jin sat on an empty seat in the subway. His attention is shifted towards a drunk guy when he hears a familiar name—Park Mi Jung. A mysteriously beautiful girl from his memory. A glimpse of his school days is shown admiring and supporting Mi Jung from afar, taking him down memory lane.
During his school days, weirdly a lot of accidents and two deaths happened. The students somehow linked it to her, as every guy who got injured interacted with her and also harbored romantic feelings for her. She looked lonely every time he saw her. The accidents and rumors eventually led her to leave school in the middle of the term.
Back to reality, leaving his trip midway, he follows her as she gets down at her destination. Mi Jung (Roh Jeong Hui). The thing that broke his heart was that she still seemed lonely just like those days. The episode ended with Dong Jin sharing his heartfelt talk with his friend.
The first episode showed ML’s perspective and the second episode focuses on Mi Jung’s side of her life. Her interactions with society and the people around her.
We came to know that Mi Jung was not someone lonely from the beginning. The situations, incidents, and people’s opinions of her made her that way. The episode is filled with how she tried to avoid the accidents yet the misfortune never left her from following.
Along with her even her father suffered and became ostracized by the villagers. In the end, he died saving his daughter from a snake bite. And she left the village at the break of dawn, all alone.
The Witch kdrama was filmed and wrapped in March 2023, before Jinyoung enlisted for military service. And now they are fully active during its release, serving us with some cool promotional stuff. The first two episodes have already brought in a lot of suspense and interest. Let us see how the story unfolds next week in episodes 3 & 4.
